James Island South Carolina
James Island is an urban island and one of six distinct regions in the area of
Charleston South Carolina. James Island South Carolina is separated from the city of
Charleston SC by the Ashley River and from the mainland by Wappoo Creek and the Wappoo Cut. On its other side is Johns Island and the Stono River runs through these two. Largely a plantation island, James Island
has seen its fair share of history, with Fort Sumter, the site of the first battle of the Civil War, lying just off the eastern tip of James Island South Carolina. With Charleston nearby, it has always been considered a bedroom door community to the city of
Charleston SC. This is important because many consider Charleston SC the home of the birthplace of golf in the U.S. because in 1786 the course Charleston Greens opened.
