Fort Mill South Carolina is a growing town in York County SC and a small suburb of Charlotte NC. Settled in the mid-1700s by the Scotch-Irish, Fort Mill later became the site of the last Confederate Government Cabinet meeting when Confederate President Jefferson Davis met with his cabinet as he passed through the area, staying at White Homestead in 1865. The city now contains a Confederate park with the nation's only monument to slaves that fought with the Confederates in the Civil War. After seeing various skirmishes and the Civil War, Fort Mill South Carolina later became a textile town, and later was established as the site for the entrance to the Carowinds Park. Paramount's Carowinds is a very popular amusement park and large attraction in the area that employs and entertains many. In addition to being known for Carowinds, Fort Mill South Carolina is also known for its peach orchards and the sprawling natural area, the Anne Springs Close Greenway. The greenway is a protected area that encompasses 2,300 acres of lakes, forests and beautiful pastures that are perfect for hiking, biking and even horseback riding.
